World Languages Department

Welcome to World Languages at Wilton High School!

The World Languages Department at Wilton High School promotes the study of foreign languages to foster a deeper understanding of our interconnected world.

Studying another language offers numerous benefits:

  • Cultural Insight: It provides a window into the core identity of a people, leading to a richer comprehension of their culture, geography, history, and societal structures.

  • Self-Reflection: It offers a unique lens through which to view and better understand your own culture and language.

  • Skill Development: It cultivates progressive mastery in the fundamental language skills: listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

Our primary objectives for students in the World Languages Department are to enhance their ability to:

  • Comprehend spoken world languages.

  • Read world languages with fluency and pleasure.

  • Write effectively in world languages.

  • Speak world languages proficiently.

Keep in mind that achieving language proficiency is directly tied to a student's dedication and the amount of time and effort they invest.

The table to the right indicates which languages are taught, which sequences are offered, and which electives may be selected. Actual courses scheduled depend on sufficient enrollment. Please check the Program of Studies for more information.
