The Physical Education Department offers a program that includes lifetime fitness and other physical activities built upon the Physical Education Academic Learning Standards CASEL’S Core Competencies of Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) and the CTSDE Healthy and Balanced Living Curriculum Framework. Grade-Level Outcomes include:

Personal Fitness: Design and execute personalized fitness plans.

Activity Mastery: Demonstrate skill in at least two lifetime physical activities.

Core Knowledge: Explain key principles of physical movement and exercise.

Responsible Behavior: Model safety, sportsmanship, and personal responsibility during activities.

Active Engagement: Participate in physical activities for challenge, fun, self-expression, and social connection.

Aligned with state and national standards, the Wilton High School Health Education program integrates health knowledge, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), and essential life skills from the CTSDE Healthy and Balanced Living Curriculum Framework, amongst other sources.
Core Content Areas:

Wellness & Safety: Physical activity, nutrition, disease prevention, injury prevention, and substance abuse education (alcohol, nicotine, and drugs).

Relationships & Sexual Health: Healthy relationships, sexual health, and violence/abuse prevention.

Mental & Emotional Health: Self-awareness, stress management, and emotional well-being.
Skill-Building & SEL Focus:

Life Skills: Goal-setting, responsible decision-making, communication, self-management, and advocacy.

Health Literacy: Finding reliable health information and evaluating external influences.
Special Programs:

Grades 9–12: Single-period presentations by The Rowan Center and the Domestic Violence Crisis Center.

Grade 10: All sophomores are invited to participate in the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Prevention Program.
